The Ratropolitan

Most of you may have heard that I had a little fender bender on my scooter. I was side swiped in a hit a run riding to work on October 4th, 2008. My scooter took a little damage and was covered by my insurance. After I got the scooter back from the shop I decided to repaint all the old pieces and swap them back out for the new ones. I also did a ruckus swing arm conversion, installed the front basket, replaced the stock mirrors with bar end mirrors, rebuilt and moved the gps mount and some other little things. Here are the picture of the new scoot. It still needs some fine tuning but it's getting close. Eventually, I am going to have it pinstripped as well.

The next projects are to redo the cover for the radiator, fix the rear brake line, modify the air box, and rejet.

For now I am dubbing it "The Ratropolitan". Over time I would like to make it look more and more like an old school rat rod.

I've been admiring all the work you've done to your met and I was hoping you could help me out. I've recently purchased my out 2009 met and I want to start doing some mods. Can you maybe tell me where you got your bar end mirrors and who you usually get your accessories from? I'm finding it really hard to find a decent selection online. I'm from Fresno CA. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey Met Driver D,

I just saw your comment. Thanks for checking out the site. Sorry it took so long to respond. I got my bar end mirrors on ebay and most of my upgrade parts from The Scooter Shop in Orange or HondaParts-Direct.com. I decided to take those mirrors off. After my crash in September I upgraded to a full face helmet and those mirrors don't really work for me anymore. If you're interested in them, let me know and maybe we can work out a deal.

I have just bought an 09' Met and am looking to spice it up. Did you put a Ruckus rear wheel on your "Ratropolitan"? Does having an oversized rear wheel improve handling at all or is it just a style thing?

Hi Phillip,

Yeah, my met has the full Ruckus swing arm and back wheel. It doesn't really change the handling much.

If you put the Ruckus stuff on the Met you will have to modify the plastics under the tail light because the back wheel will rub. I had to make a special upper mount for my shock to give it more clearance. You also need to be careful of the break cable which gets a little too short. I was able to mod it enough to get the brakes to work and not stick but it took some trial and error. I would recommend getting a brake cable made or switching to a Ruckus brake cable. But you have to bypass the t-connector for the brake system up behind the headlight.

Also, I'm now selling the Met because I upgraded to a Vespa 300. If you need any parts or fresh body panels to mess with, let me know and I can tell you what I have. I will be posting them for sale very soon.
